In my school, I had to write an essay on a system call WICR for my AVID class. I think that it is very helpful and that it can even help you. This is my essay:

In AVID (Advancement Via In Determination) we learn about many things. We learn about Costa’s levels of Inquiry. Inquiry is one of the things that WICR, another thing we learn about in AVID, stands for. WICR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading. This is also helpful in college and if you have a job.

In AVID we do many things involving writing. The main thing is Cornell Notes, a helpful process that helps us take our notes better. The method was developed at Cornell University to help students have a better and more organized way to take notes. On the left side of the border you write your question/topic and on the right of the border you write the answers or take the notes on the question/topic.
The “I” in WICR stands for Inquiry, which means thinking about something. In AVID we inquire about many things. For example, when we do tutorials (a helpful way of kids helping other kids learn something new or something they don’t understand; involve Cornell Notes) we have to inquire, think, about whatever the question is. Then, after we get the answer, we help the person who needs help get the answer. We also learn how to inquire in the outside world. From how to spend our money to the choices we make in life, we have to think about what we are doing and what are the possible outcomes of our actions.

Collaboration is what the “C” means. Basically put, collaboration means working as a group/team. This is vital in life because we all need to learn how to work with and get along with other people, because you never know when you might need some one's help, or even if they might need yours. In AVID we collaborate on many things. When we do tutorials we work as a team and try to help the person with the question. When we play Pictionary, we work as a team to win the game. Collaboration helps you develop your social skills, so you can learn how to talk to others better. This is very helpful if you become a businessman or a lawyer.

The last letter in WICR, the “R”, stands for reading. We do it everyday. We do it in school, at our jobs, even at home. But at AVID, reading isn’t just picking up a book or magazine and just reading it. At AVID, reading is when you read something and try to figure out what the message the book or magazine is trying to tell you. At AVID, reading is when you latch on and grasp the meaning of the text and really understand what it means. If you are a lawyer, you have to read and understand the facts of he case before you van prepare your argument. If you don’t, you will lose your case.

In conclusion, WICR is really helpful. It prepares you for the outside world, it will help you when you get a job, and it is easy to understand. The slogan for “Target” is “Life is a moving target. You should move with it”. I bring this up because it is true. If you don’t move along with the life and the world, you won’t get far. That is why parents and teachers are pushing kids to do their bets in school and get good grades. WICR can help you by making some things easier. But as they say “It’s your choice”.

Transformers Dark of the Moon

Helloooo Transformers fans. As you probably know there will be a Transformers 3 due to the fact that Megatron was alive at the end of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Plus he also said that it wasn't over. The 3rd move is currently in production and will be released on July 1, 2011. It is called Transformers The Dark of the Moon(left). There is also an old enemy from the G1 Series: Shockwave(Right). Shockwave was originally a scientist/warrior, who did Megatron's bidding. After the war came to Earth, though, Shockwave ruled over Cybertron and created many things, such as Warships(below) and more Decepticons. He comes to Earth with two motives: take leadership of the Decepticons and to take over the universe. The Fate of all Transformers will be decided. The stage is set for the final battle. On July 1st, 2011, Earth Goes Dark.

Well Wimpy Kid fans the wait is over! Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth(pictured left) is finally out in stores.
In the book, Greg is in his 8th Grade year. Rowley is no longer his friend and Greg is facing the changes of growing up alone. Will Rowley and Greg be friends again? Or will they both face the ugly truth?

The Lost Hero

Hey there everybody! How many of you have ever heard of Rick Riordan? If you ever read the Percy Jackson books, The 1st 39 Clues, or The Red Pyramid, you probably do. Now he is back with a whole new series called The Heroes Of Olympus. This is the second series to the Percy Jackson series. If you read The Last Olympian(the last book in the Percy Jackson series) there was a prophecy about seven heroes who would either save or destroy the world. The 1st Heroes of Olympus book, The Lost Hero(pictured left), is about a boy named Jason who wakes up on a bus with no memory whatsoever. Apparently he has a best friend named Leo Valdez and a girlfriend named Piper McLean. They arrive at the Grand Canyon and, there, they face their 1st threat. They survive, thanks to Jason, and travel to Camp Half-Blood. There all three of them find out who there Olympian parent is and that the goddess Hera has been captured by a force more powerful than even the Titans! Jason, Leo, and Piper then have to save Hera before the winter solstice. With the help of Festus(the bronze dragon on the cover) they travel all over the country looking for Hera. Along the way they encounter new threats, new allies, and Jason find the sister he never knew he had. But behind this quest is a dangerous secret, one that might destroy Camp Half-Blood forever. I won't tell you the secret, but I will tell you this: The Greek gods aren't the only gods in town.

Super Bowl XLIV

On Febuary 7th,2010 in Miami,Florida the stage was set for Super Bowl XLIV between the AFC champions, the Indianapolis Colts and the NFC champions, the New Orleans Saints. The Saints won, as I'd hoped they would, 31-17. The MVP was quarterback Drew Brees(Right).

Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong is one of the most recognizable figures in jazz. He is widely respected around the world.

Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 4, 1901. His father had left him and his mother left him to his grandmother. He ended up growing up on the streets after his grandma died, singing and playing music for money. But with no family to love or take care of him he often got in trouble with the police. One day a school music teacher found him on the streets playing and singing for money and decided to take him in. Louis ended up going to the teacher’s school and learned to play the cornet and trumpet, which seemed to come naturally to him. Though he was a natural at the instruments his singing was terrible. In the end he gave up on singing and decided to lay music on his trumpet. The type of music he loved to play and listen to was jazz.

By 1920(the jazz age) he was one of the most famous musicians of the time. He was part of the Harlem Renaissance which was a place and time when famous artists entertained people. There he met and played with Duke Elengington and Bessie Smith. Even during the Great Depression and after the jazz age he made a lot of money for his trumpet playing. But he also sang and the song that he was most famous for was What A Wonderful World. He died July 6, 1971 at the age of 70 because of a heart attack. Even though he is dead we will never forget the great jazz musician, Louis Armstrong.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees highlights

On Thursday 9-3-09 I went to Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees game and in this blog I am going to tell you the highlights. In the bottom of the 2nd inning there was a double play by the Blue Jays. But the best highlight was in the the top of the 9th inning when the 1st home runs of the game were hit the first one was a solo shot by Alex Rodriguez(pictured left) and the next one was a double home run by Jorge Posada(pictured right). Water Purification

Water Purification takes 5 steps. The 1st is coagulation. The 2nd step is sedimentation. The 3rd step is Filtration. The 4th step is Disinfection. The last step is storage. It normally starts when you flush a toilet. The water goes in to the pipes to an underground machine that takes out the the yucky stuff from the water. Then it goes to a water treatment plant where the take out the hard stuff from the water. Then it gets filtered to get rid of the bacteria in the water. then they disinfect the water to get rid of whatever bacteria is left. Then the water gets stored for dinking and other uses. The sequel to Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen, contains many surprises. In the movie Megatron comes back, there are new robots, and Sam learns a shocking secret about himself. As the Autobots fight the Decepticons, they face a bigger threat, the Fallen(pictured right) , the first ever Decepticon, who plans to use a machine that will blow up the sun. The Lightning Thief series

About the book series
The Lightning Thief Series, by Rick Riordan, is about a boy, Percy (short for Perseus) Jackson, who learns that his real father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea.

In book 1, The Lightning Thief, Percy is in 6th grade when he gets attacked by a mythological creature of the Underworld called a Fury. He also gets attacked by a Minotaur a half-man, half-bull creature. After that he came to a place called Camp Half-Blood where finds out his best friend, Grover, is a satyr, a half-human, half-goat creature, that the camp is for people like him, half-human, half god. He is also offered a quest, one that will decide the fate of the world.

In book 2, The Sea of Monsters, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood is in danger because someone poisoned the camps magical borders which keeps all he mythological monsters outside of camp. He also finds out that Grover has been captured by a cyclops. Percy must save his friend and Camp Half-Blood or else they are all doomed.

In book 3, The Titan's Curse, Percy receives an urgent distress call from Grover saying that he found 2 half-bloods and needs to get hem safely to camp. But, a Greek goddess, Artemis, has bee captured by a mysterious evil. To rescue the goddess Percy tarts a perilous quest.

In book 4, The Battle of the Labyrinth, Percy discovers a maze that could

help their enemies get into Camp Half-Blood. So Percy goes into the labyrinth, on a quest to find it's creator so they can destroy it, a quest that nobody has come back from alive.

Book 5, The Last Olympian, is now available where ever books are sold.

My Opinion
In my opinion The Lightning Thief series is a great at book. I liked it not only because it was funny, but because I love Greek mythology.

When I grow up I want to be an athlete.
When you're an athlete you have to stay at the top of your game. You have to train hard everyday to stay in shape. To prepare you have to study P.E., nutrition, biology, anatomy, and sports education. To stay in shape you have to go to the gym and/or practice 2-4 hours a day. There is something every job has and that is a job outlook. A job outlook is the hiring intentions of employers which means the chances of you being hired. The job outlook of an athlete is 18%-26%. To improve your outlook of becoming an athlete you have to go to college for 2 or more years before you are drafted by a sports team. As a pro athlete you earn on an average of $25,001 to $30,000 a day.To be a good athlete you have to be a good team player / a "good sport". All of this info applies for football, basketball, ice hockey, etc. If work hard and train right you may become the athlete you always wanted to be or admired.

Zoids Chaotic Century

Zoids Chaotic Century is a cartoon about robotic animals that can be piloted in the inside by a person. Zoids are mainly used in battles because they have incredible powers and weapons.

The show starts off with a 17 year-old boy named Van Flyheight (pictured above) being chased by bandits in zoids. Van hides in some ruins where he discovers an organoid(a type zoid that increases the potential of a zoid it fuses with, heals the zoid's wounds, brings "dead" zoids back "alive";pictured left) named Zeke. A bandit in a zoid attacks Van and Zeke so they fly to safety. Two bandits in Command Wolves (a type of zoid; pictured above left) start firing at them. Then Zeke fuses with a Shield Liger (another type of zoid; one of the most powerful zoids; named after it's strong shield; pictured right) and Van destroys the Command Wolves. Van and Zeke head back to the ruins where they find a 17 year-old girl named Fiona. Van, Zeke, and Fiona ( pictured below the Shield Liger) begin a journey to find out about Fiona's past, because she doesn't remember anything except her name, and to find something called Zoid Eve.

Then they meet a boy named Irvine( pictured left) who has a Command Wolf. He and a girl named Moonbay( pictured under Irvine). Moonbay has another type of zoid called a Gustav ( pictured right).

Then one they meet a 17 year-old boy name Raven who, like Van, has an organoid named Shadow(pictured left with Raven). Raven has a zoid called a Saber Fang(pictured below) Raven becomes one of their worst enemies especially Van's because he destroyed Raven Saber Fang. Raven then gets a new type of zoid called the Genosaurer(pictured below left), which is the fist of its kind.

The Genosaurer destroys Van's Shield Liger. But thanks to Zeke,who tried to resurrect the Shield Liger but instead creates a new type of zoid, Van gets a zoid called the Blade Liger( pictured under the Saber Fang).Then when he meets Raven again he destroys the Geno Saurer. But now he has a bigger problem. An old evil zoid called the Death Saurer (pictured below) has returned to destroy all life but Van and the others defeat the Death Saurer.

Then they meet Hiltz and his organoid Ambien( pictured below the Blade Liger). After defeating him they meet Rease and her organoid Specula (pictured left). Then they meet Thomas who has a Debison. He becomes friends with Van and the others and develops a crush on Fiona. Then one day Raven shows up in his new Genosaurer(pictured below). But after losing to Van again Shadow evolves it into a Geno Breaker ( pictured below Rease). He was going to destroy Van with but Hiltz created a zoid called the Death Stinger (pictured below Hiltz) that almost destroyed the Geno breaker so he teamed up with Van to defeat him. But Hiltz used the Death stinger zoid core (it is the "heart" of a zoid) to resurrect the Death Saurer. But again Van defeated the Death Saurer by destroying its zoid core. After that there were no more enemies for Van. He and the others become friends with Raven and Rease who helped defeat the Death Saurer.

About the Book Series
Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney is a novel made of comics. It is about a boy named Greg Heffley who writes about his life, family,and school in a diary.

In the first book Greg is in the sixth grade. He starts out like this "Just don't expect me to be dear diary this and dear diary that".

In the second book, Rodrick Rules, Greg is in seventh grade and has a new diary. Something embarrassing happened to him that he is trying hard to forget. The problem is his brother, Rodrick, knows about it and is holding it over his head. But then Greg makes a move that makes Rodrick spill his secret.

If you want to be like Greg and write your own story and make your own comics you can if you buy Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do It Yourself Book. You can even play mini-games take fun pop-quizzes.

My Opinion
In my opinion Diary of a Wimpy Kid is very funny. When I read the first book I couldn't wait to read the second book. I also like this book series because these books make me feel relaxed. I don't know if you'll like it but to me it is a great book series.

Also book 3, Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Last Straw, is coming out to stores on January 13Th,2009.

I'm writing this blog on the story The Iron Giant because it teaches you about friendship and sacrifice. First I saw the movie then I read the book. When I was reading the book and watching The Iron Giant I felt like I was actually there in the movie and the story as a small boy named Hogarth. I felt like Hogarth because he reads science-fiction books, watches science-fiction movies, and is curiouse like me.

Iron Giant - the movie
In the movie The Iron Giant a robot crash lands on earth and makes friends with a boy named Hogarth Hughes. They become friends after Hogarth saves the giant from getting electricuted at the power plant. A government officer wants him captured and destroyed. He also wants to find out who sent the giant to earth. Hogarth after being friends with the Iron Giant thinks he is the luckiest kid in America. He protects the giant from anyone who wants to capture him by hiding him at a scrap yard.

The Iron Giant sacrifices himself to save the people of the town.

The book is diffrent from the movie. In the book Hogarth lures him in a trap because he was afraid of the Iron Giant. After he lures him in the trap he feels guilty because he feels sorry for the giant. The biggest difference between the movie and the book is that there is a monster in the book and the Iron Giant challenges him to a contest of strenth.

The first airplane was made by the Wright Brothers. The airplane is the worlds fastest way of transportation. If you use a ship or a car to get to far away places you will get there in a few days or weeks. But the airplane takes a few hours or 1 day.

The Amazing Telephone

Now I'm gonna tell you about the telephone. The telephone was created by Alexander Graham Bell. Before the the telephone was invented, if people wanted to communicate to people far away they would mail letters. Then they would wait 20 or 30 days for a response. On the telephone you can call anyone you want and get a response on the same day.

With just the right transmitter in place sound could be carried over wires trough electricity varying in intensity and also transmits speech. He also tried to experiment with a water transmitter using an acid-water mixture and he succeeded. Unlike the telephone which couldn't transmit speech clearly the water transmitter sent speech perfectly.

The Wonderful Things About Electricity

I read a book called Inventors by Martin W. Sandler. I'm going to write about my 3 favorite inventions and their inventors.

First I'm going to tell you about electricity. Electricity is important because if we didn't have electricity we wouldn't have lights.

Before electricity people would use candles or oil lamps instead of light.

The person who invented electricity is Thomas Alva Edison. He invented many things but his greatest invention was the light bulb. He discovered electricity when he was flying a kite into a thunderstorm and his kite got zapped so the lightning reached Edison by the string attached to the kite.

Light is important because if we didn't have a stoplight or a walk and stop sign, it would be a disaster. Everything around us like computer, lamps, and television work on electricity and light.

My Nintendo Wii Experience

Hi it's me again Rishabh and I have a Nintendo Wii. I've played Wii Sports, Wii Play,and Spiderman 3 The Game. When you have Nintendo Wii you can create your own characters to match you. You play wireless games. In Wii Sports you have Tennis,Baseball,Golf,Bowling,and Boxing. In Wii Play you have Shooting Range, Pool, Laser Hockey, Fishing, Match Mii, Ping Pong, Army Tanks, Cow Riding, and Match Emotion. When I play Wii I feel like i'm the character. I've never had so much fun. It also gives you body excercise. You can also play Gamecube games on Wii.

The things I like about Nintendo Wii:

1.When you move the Wii remote the character does the same action.

2.It has a built in memory chip.

3.On the Wii they show you what buttons to press when playing a game.

4.Because the Wii remote doesn't have a wire,nobody trips and falls.

5. When you hit or throw or in boxing you will always move.

The things I don't like about Nintendo Wii:

1.When you swing the Wii Remote sometimes somebody could get hurt.

2.The Wii games cost too much.

Test Taking Tips

Hi it's me Rishabh and I'd like to give you tips on how to take tests and check them when you're done. First when you take a test take your time if you want to pass the test. After you read the queston read all the answers.

When you're finished go back and take the test again. When you're checking the test make sure you can prove your answer. If it is a reading test go back and read the text and prove your answers.

P.S. Make sure your parents see this. See you next week.
